As summer begins to round second base, it is also a indication that The Voice-Tribune’s Best Dressed of Louisville Presented by Churchill Downs is fast approaching. I caught up with a few of our important and loyal sponsors that will be participating in this year’s show.
Susan Vogt, women’s buyer for Rodes
Rodes For Him and For Her has been in business for almost a century. What are some of the keys to Rodes success?
I am very proud of the fact that Rodes has been our family business for the past four generations. It is rare that a week goes past that I don’t hear from someone who once interned for Rodes who is now operating their own business or how their favorite uncle worked at the mall store. It’s very heartwarming. The key to our success is that we remain true to our roots, we strive to find merchandise of a specific quality while focusing on the details to be on the latest edge of style.
What are some of the trends for fall/winter that will soon be in stores?
The fashion trends for this season go from “Mad Men” influence to casually chic. The designers have pulled through the decades to create sophisticated comfort. The fabrics this season are beautiful, grounded in charcoals, beiges and navy with strong pops of reds, orange and periwinkle blue. There is a lot of playfulness with prints, ease of dressing with layers of knits and a colorful scarf wrapped around your neck to complete the look. The trend this fall season is chic with an edge.

What are some easy and cost-effective ways to update your wardrobe?
It is best to collect classic pieces throughout the years that will not go out of style. Classy pieces are always “in,” and you can always expand your wardrobe by adding a new item such as a new trendy scarf, belt, accessory or shoes to update.
Which designers do you admire the most and why?
I love Milly! Michele Smith does a fabulous job; she always has classic silhouettes. Her collections are consistently feminine, and I think she has a fabulous eye for fabrics, textures and prints that make you look polished, chic and feminine.
I also love Lauren Moffatt! She makes new pieces look like you pulled them out of your grandmother’s or mother’s closet. Her collections always have a vintage and very girly feel to them. I love the special unique feminine touches that she puts on each and every piece. A ton of detail goes into every piece of her collection, which makes it very special and very unique.

What non-invasive procedures are your most popular and why?
Botox and dermal fillers are the most popular. As the leading Botox provider in Kentucky, CaloSpa proves that Botox is America’s No. 1 cosmetic procedure.
Dermal fillers like Restylan, Juvederm and Radiesse have also become very popular for people who are not yet ready for surgery. With Botox and Dysport there is little to no downtime. The procedures take a few minutes, with minimal discomfort, and the results are amazing. I advise my patients to schedule their appointments consistently to maintain excellent results.
