It’s hard to fathom that the close of the school year is almost here. For some, it’s time to prepare for graduation along with studying for finals, applying to college and finding the perfect prom dress. The smell of summer is in the air, and both students and parents are ready for the beginning of a different regime.

Everyone is anxiously awaiting the opening of local pools and chilling out with friends until the sun fades behind the trees, or grilling out with neighbors, sipping wine and commiserating about last year’s events and how time seems to slip by with no fair warning.

Summer is a time for throwing the rigorous schedule out the window and adding spontaneity into the mix. The first day of summer break comes after a long school year spent learning, working and waking up early. I long for the first day of the break by emphasizing the temporary new lack of responsibilities. This can mean sleeping in late, lounging and not being in a hurry to get anywhere. Sharing my summer with family and friends and making memories that last a lifetime is something I cherish.

After the newness of summer settles in and my relaxed state of mind slowly wears off, it’s time to begin gearing up for The Voice-Tribune’s Best Dressed of Louisville Presented by Churchill Downs. As the countdown to the end of public nominations begins, we encourage everyone to get involved and cast your vote. It is just a short time before we begin revealing the nominees for this year’s Best Dressed.

We are proud to announce that one of Louisville’s premier venues will host our ever-expanding event for the third consecutive year. Our relationship with the Louisville Marriott Downtown is something we value, and it has played a great roll in the continued success of Best Dressed. The Marriott is synonymous with top-notch service and pays close attention to the fine details. It’s safe to bet the quality of service will be first-class.

The hard work of all those involved with Best Dressed enables The Voice-Tribune to give back to our community. Giving back and hopefully making a difference in the lives of others is a passion of ours. It’s with great pleasure that our benefiting charity again this year is Dress for Success Louisville. It’s not just about the suit! It’s about helping women gain employment in hopes of leading a self-sufficient life.
