Off to the Sundance Film Festival

| February 3, 2011

LoriSundanceEvery January, the people of Utah get to rub elbows with the Hollywood community who make their way to Park City for the Sundance Film Festival. In the picturesque mountain town, sitting next to Stein Eriksen in the Stein Eriksen lodge is just another day at lunch.

Although Park City may be considered small compared to some of the other resorts towns out West, it has become one of my favorite places to ski. Don’t let the town’s size fool you; the Sundance Film Festival is filled with movies, art and culture.

I love to travel, love to go anywhere and love that I get the opportunity to travel with my girlfriends. Connie Boone started this girl’s trip several years ago, and I am fortunate enough to have been included for a second year.

LoriSundanceWhat’s so charming about Sundance is the lack of the Hollywood attitude. You can mingle with some of the biggest and brightest stars and filmmakers without all the pomp and circumstance. But don’t let the low profile fool you; it is still the hipster and understated jet-set scene that leaves you anticipating next year.

The mind-set and intimacy along with the majestic, awe-inspiring views definitely makes for a perfect getaway or family vacation spot. What most of us girls love to do with our spare time is dart in and out of the homegrown boutiques. Main Street has a great small-town feel, but it still has an appealing mix of upscale restaurants, trendy boutiques and a lively nightlife. It’s fun just walking around the picturesque streets with the entire eclectic and artistic filmmaking community.

LoriSundanceI would love to boast about seeing some of the biggest breakout hits that come out of Sundance, but more than a 100 films are shown and some never to be seen again. After all, Sundance is known for turning little-known filmmakers into showbiz superstars and turning obscure actors into household names.

Winter’s Bone, which stars local actor Jennifer Lawrence, premiered at Sundance. Lawrence recently received an Oscar nomination for her role in the film.

Another Sundance Film Festival has come and gone, and I’ll keep seeing the next great film on my bucket list until I succeed.
