What is it about this city that is so, well, Louisville?
We are fortunate to live in a city that is gastronomically diverse offering an eclectic independent restaurant scene. If you can’t find something interesting to eat in Derby City, there’s something wrong with you.
And, with our locally-owned boutiques, everyone’s needs can be easily met.
While Louisville is the home of the Kentucky Derby, it’s also home to many people who are passionate about the arts as well.
21c Museum Hotel has landed the coveted prize from the Condé Nast Traveler as one of the world’s top hotels.
I love my city and I’m always proud to show it off to any first time visitor.
There’s something infectious about Louisville’s people that make it so desirable.
I’ve never hosted a Derby guest who didn’t wish for a second invite.
It’s my love of Louisville that prompts me to consciously support our independent local businesses.
Doing so helps keep our city unique.
To illustrate my point, I had a conversation with the folks at Sunny Daize and The Fashion Post, two destination shopping locations.
SD: Sunny Daize is a boutique with a unique business model.
It has arranged to stock inventory from local and national boutiques at a significantly discounted rate.
Everyday savings of 50% to 90% off retail prices are not uncommon.
They specialize in the finest contemporary fashions, including better designer and couture labels, for women and men of all ages.
You will find shoes, purses, furs, belts, sunglasses, costume and fine jewelry, as well as special occasion dresses for balls, galas, pageants, homecomings and proms.
Our labels range from White House Black Market and Talbots to Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana.
VT: What accessory or accessories should every girl have in her closet this season?
SD: One look-changing accessory for the season would be oversize earrings … chandeliers, shoulder-dusters. It is definitely the pieces of the season.
Exotic, classic crocodile is the skin of the season.
Look for it in evening clutches, to day bags, to iPad covers.
Embellishment of all kinds including beads, rhinestones, sequins are a great way to accessorize shoes, handbags, and clothes.
Belts, whether worn high on the waist, or low on the hips, can refresh your wardrobe.
Updated platform shoes are a must.
Transparency — from peekaboo panels to Lucite bracelets are wonderful.
Wrist candy — oversize bracelets are a must too.
FP: Two things really — first, selecting and bringing to Louisville an evolving classic, timeless look in menswear that we believe suits the needs of our market and secondly, providing an informed and respectful level of service to every customer.
VT: What are some of the new spring trends for men this year?
FP: Color, color, color. 100% Cotton, 100% Linen. Seersucker. Madras.
Exceptional sportcoats for Derby with booming interest in bow ties!
Soft, washed casual sportswear. Novelty embroidered shorts and pants.
Preppy and classic. It always comes back to the classics!
