Breeders’ Cup To Hold Fascinator & Fedora Friday

| August 24, 2011

Fascinator FedoraThe Breeders’ Cup World Championships return to Churchill Downs in about 60 days, which means the countdown to the richest two days in sports has begun just as The Voice-Tribune is about to host Best Dressed of Louisville Presented by Churchill Downs, our signature soiree.

“The reality is it’s the biggest fashion event in Louisville,” Peter Rotondo, vice president of media and entertainment for the Breeders’ Cup, told me via phone from his New York office. “Going to the races is all about fashion, so it seems like a perfect fit to kick off Breeders’ Cup season.”

We’re thrilled to count Breeders’ Cup among our loyal Best Dressed sponsors this year.

Even more, we’re excited to partner with them for the inaugural Fascinator & Fedora Friday, a big-money giveaway we’ll help host on Nov. 4 at Churchill Downs.

“It’s a new event that we’re going to do on Championship Friday, Nov. 4,” explained Rotondo. “It will be a contest where everyone who walks through the gates just has to sign up and they’re eligible to win some great prizes, including $5,000 for the best fascinator and $5,000 for the best fedora – and yes, ladies, you can win with the best fedora.” Likewise for any fella who’d prefer to don a fascinator.

We’ll drop more details about Fascinator & Fedora Friday in the weeks ahead, but for starters, we’re giving away one of each at Best Dressed on Saturday, Aug. 27. The handcrafted numbers are from The Danbury Shakes Hat Company, a brand-new line by designers Butch Sager and Shawn Beirne. We’re thrilled to feature their gorgeous creations and look forward to seeing which of our Best Dressed revelers will walk away with a chapeaux.

By the way, the Louisville duo will soon open up a boutique named gifthorse in the Nulu District. The shop will feature hats, fascinators, dresses and menswear designed and created by Butch and Shawn. Contact them at or 502.819.7474.
