Spring has sprung

Has Come To Town!
In a yellow petticoat
And a green gown!
A gorgeous bowl of fragrant yellow daffodils with orange “lips” was sent to me on the first day of spring last week by former Operation Brightside guiding light, Barkley Payne, who went on to Chicago to be honored by the American Dental Association.
All the yellow daffodils on hillsides, expressways and parks were Barkley’s joy. I planted Brightside bulbs at Rosewell where they thrived and multiplied thanks to Barkley’s energy and devotion.
I photographed these glorious daffodils to “send to Barkley” by way of The Social Side, which is dedicated to him today!

Two Who Did Not ‘get away’
Here’s a flower arrangement at Nanz and Kraft perfect for Father’s Day if dad loves fishing!
A glorious trout hangs from a fishing rod planted in a green turtle shaped bowl with green moss, purple African violets and two iridescent dragonflies!
I titled the arrangement “the one who didn’t get away,” and Nanz and Kraft made a sign for it.
For $59 it was a jewel! They held it for me until Monday. If you bought it, let me know.
The second “one who did not get away” was St. Patrick on March 17 at Stan’s Fish Sandwich.

Last year St. Pat, Jim Hennessey, “got away” because I tripped on a sidewalk near Blue Dog Bakery where we were supposed to have lunch and then take pictures for my column.
Instead an ambulance rushed me to University Hospital with a black and blue face and an injured finger.
Jim came to the hospital to see me.
“Did you buy a sandwich at Blue Dog?”
I asked and he said yes.
“Where is it?” I asked.
“I ate it,” he said.
It’s a good thing I had four big brothers. They taught me “boys will be boys.”
