Philip and Susie Greenberg made this Christmas beautiful for their friends and relatives on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.

Susie held her elegant tea for 55 ladies at the Seelbach Hotel, wearing a lovely Carolina Herrera, black cocktail dress chosen by Philip, presiding over scones, 10 different tiny sandwiches of Benedictine, smoked salmon, country ham and sweets of chocolate, dipped strawberries, crème brulee, and Grand Marnier cheesecake with candied cherries to name just a few. The lunch ended with hot chocolate with homemade marshmallows!

At the same time across the Atlantic, Philip and his two grandsons, Ryan, 11, and Jake, 10, sons of Peter and Edy Greenberg of Reston, Va., attended the world soccer match in Milan, Italy, between A.C Milan and A.S. Roma. From there they went to Venice; followed by skiing on the slopes of Cortina D’Ampezzo (site of the 1970 Winter Olympics) where the boys, already superb skiers, under the supervision of an expert instructor,,  conquered the black diamond slopes.

Finally, they headed to Rome where they attended a two-and-a-half hour Midnight Christmas Eve Mass at the Vatican celebrated by Pope Benedict XVI. They were seated on the seventh row.,  They were joined on their journey by Constanzo Federico and Christiana Mazzarella of Capri, Italy, and Philip’s cousin, Yossi Zilber, of Israel.,  Susie planned to join them in Rome, but weather closed European airports.

The boys were wearing the A.C. Milan soccer uniforms shown here in the picture taken by Yossi in the lobby of the Hotel Principe Di Savoia.

Philip was impressed by the charm and good manners of his grandsons who are brilliant at mathematics, fun to be with, very polite, obedient and a great joy to their grandfather.

This past Sunday, Jan. 2, Philip, wearing a handsome black overcoat with Persian lamb fur collar, and Susie, gorgeous in a bejeweled Emilio Pucci patchwork coat, took me to lunch at the Seelbach to discuss the trip, presenting me with my heart’s desire, a lovely iridescent green rosary from the Vatican, blessed by the Pope at Christmas Midnight Mass.

Happy New Year!
