The James Beard Foundation celebrated 25 years last week at the Brown Hotel. The evening was sponsored by Sullivan University and The Brown Hotel and was under the direction of the enormously capable public relations staff headed by Jamie Estes.
Sixteen nationally celebrated Louisville chefs prepared the seven-course dinner, which benefited the James Beard Foundation and Sullivan University’s National Center for Hospitality Studies scholarship fund.

HOSPARUS Candle Glow Gala
Plans are underway for the always lovely and fun Candlelight Gala, to be held at the Downtown Marriott Hotel on Nov. 10. This is the third year for this successful fund raiser for Hosparus “because the end of life is part of living.”
Dinner is always delicious at the Downtown Marriott. I had fun tasting and testing dinner with Jeff McCall, Karen Olmsted and Cathy Slider of Hosparus. Their staff and volunteers give 100 percent plus in their dedication to providing a memorable and usually spectacular dinner and evening.
This, That & The Other will play for dancing. There will be a silent and a live auction featuring a “get away” that sounded divine.
Don Smith, Ted Steinbock and Sarah Martin co-hosted a party to introduce friends to Ocean Vodka, a new (founded in 2006 in Maui) and exceptional, distinctive spirit brand. Ocean Vodka competes in the ultra-premium category with such brands as Grey Goose, Chopin and Belvedere vodkas.
Enjoying the party were Teri and Steve Bass, Cathy and Tom Duddy, Ruth and Mark Deuser, Sam Moseley, Hollis and Caldwell Willig, Elizabeth Rounsavall, Kent Oyler and of course Kathy Smith, along with loads of their friends.
Steve Bass decided to give his wife, Teri, a birthday party. He told her about his plans and she told him she had already made plans to give one herself! Teri is very organized and not one to wait ‘til the last minute to get a job done. Her invitations were already in the mail!
It was a glorious day and lunch was served on the terrace at Vincenzo’s. The “girls” had a wonderful time visiting with each other. When the guests left, Teri gave each one a birthday gift! Now, was that sweet or what?!
