One of my favorite Louisville shopping spots, Westport Village is filled with great boutiques, fabulous restaurants, relaxing salons and spas, and much more. But my favorite shops aren’t what brought me to Westport Village last Friday.
The hotspot is getting even hotter with the recent addition of the Westport Village Summer Concert Series, which features a local band from 7 to 9 p.m. every Friday.
Whether you want to bring your family for some late afternoon fun or you want to share a drink with friends to celebrate the weekend, the concert series makes Westport Village a relaxing summer hangout.
When I arrived to see Dem Reggae Bon, a local band that kicked off the series, I immediately felt relaxed by the Caribbean music echoing throughout the shopping center. It put me in a good mood and made me forget about the heat while I passed by some of my favorite snack spots: Heine Brothers’ Coffee and The Comfy Cow.
As I walked closer to the stage – which is set up between Wild Eggs and Tony BoomBozz – I saw tons of lawn chairs, families enjoying themselves and small children grooving to the music. It was a great sight.
But the concert series isn’t just for families. The deck at Tony BoomBozz sits adjacent to the band, making it the perfect location to enjoy a drink in the shade.
The Westport Village team also makes it incredibly safe. By blocking off the traffic circle in front of the band, concertgoers don’t have to worry about cars. Instead, the circle serves as audience seating. The large crowd of people jamming out in the middle of the street gives Westport Village an exciting feel, even when most of the stores have closed for the day.
That’s right, unfortunately most of the boutiques close by 7 p.m. on Friday; however, the concert gives shoppers a good incentive to stick around after a day of retail therapy, dine at Napa River Grill, check out the tastings at Westport Whiskey & Wine, or have a seat at Westport Village’s newest restaraunt, AP Crafters. Or, if you don’t want to break the bank, it’s fun to enjoy Westport Village after 7 p.m. and not worry about all the new accessories you just have to have. And Pretty Nails is always open, in case you want to pamper yourself to the beat of the music.
Opening night of the Westport Village Concert Series had a great turnout, and I can only predict that it will gain popularity as the summer rolls on. I suggest arriving early to find a parking spot and set up your lawn chair front and center.
