I promise I will only speak of “it” one time during this entire article. But with the recent upset, March Madness just doesn’t have the same flair or energy as if the Cards were still playing. Therefore, I have been repeatedly dragged by my not-so-disappointed cohorts (who call themselves friends) to cheer on another Kentucky team that shall remain nameless.
After an unfortunate afternoon spent at a UK-themed establishment – I needed to seek solace with my people and knew just where to go: the University Club.
Quiet and serene, I was “big blue” free if only for the time being. With clean carpet, an airy aroma and friendly staff all wearing red, I was home. It was a nice change of pace for my nostrils not to be overwhelmed by the smell of spilled malt vinegar that envelops the establishments I typically frequent come game time.
The University Club extends a warm welcome to those looking to begin or maintain their bond and allegiance to the University of Louisville. Established in 1991, the club is a private organization open to alumni, faculty, staff or just friends of the university.
With reasonable membership fees and invaluable benefits, it is the perfect place to grab a bite, watch a game or hide out from gloating winners. With three different dining areas offering weekly lunch and dinner service, including The Terrace and The President’s Room, you can find an atmosphere to fit your mood.
Still need the nitty gritty atmosphere of a bar to quench your NCAA craving? Head to The Pub at the University Club. This pub has all the makings of a good time: casual atmosphere, full bar, seven HD TV’s and lunch service, which includes the Cardinal Bird Sampler, a feast of broccoli and cheese poppers, popcorn shrimp, chicken tenders, fried mushrooms, hummus and cheese accompanied by dipping sauces.
It’s like country club dining with a tailgating state of mind. Mix and match any lunch option for just $5 and find out why this is the best deal on campus.
While some might not be too keen on the idea of having a membership to go to lunch on your home team’s turf, this is one club that you won’t have a problem meeting your minimum. As a member you receive unlimited access and use of club facilities and invitations to special activities, including the newest Friday night fish fry. Stay in the loop with the club’s monthly newsletter, “The Connection,” keeping you up on all things Cards.
The University Club is located at 2001 S. Brook St. and open for lunch from 11:30 to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Dinner times vary.

On the northeast corner of U of L’s Belknap campus you will find a Cards fan hub, a nice lunch or even a group gathering.
“Go Big Red!” Sizzling sounds from the pasta station or just a quiet afternoon.
Dish everyone knows to order
In keeping with game-time eats, the Cardinal Bird Sampler is the perfect way to kick back with a grease fest while wearing a polo.
