Napa River Grill

Napa River GrillIf the not so girl-friendly terms  “charcoal,” “lighter fluid” and “propane” seem to be all that your man-panion relates to grilling, it might be time to suggest a girl’s night and head to a more flattering grill – Napa River Grill in Westport Village.

If Napa’s reputation alone isn’t enough to rally first-time diners to ditch the boys for a night, try enticing them with some shopping at the many boutiques in Westport Village.

Featuring Northern California cuisine with “Pacific-Rim fusion,” Napa River’s seasonal menu and fresh fares only help to complement its inviting atmosphere.

If you take my idea and dine sans guys, make sure to grab a seat outdoors at one of the restaurant’s cozy fire tables. You’ll appreciate the warmth of the fire just in case it gets chilly, and your chivalrous man isn’t there to offer his jacket (we knew they were good for something).

Tip: Plan your girls-only escape early and take advantage of Napa River’s happy hour, every day from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in the lounge.

Fire TableIf you’re the frugal one in your girl group, suggest that in the spirit of Derby you split the Trifecta: Bodega Bay crab cake, 9-ounce seared lobster tail and baked shrimp scampi ($42.95). The only sure bet here is to beat your sharing partner to the plate because I can guarantee this one is going to go fast.

Napa River’s Caesar salad also is an absolute must. Just don’t bother ordering it to save face as being the most health-conscious one of your fellow diners. This staple might be classified as a “salad,” but with the added treat of being served in a baked Parmesan bowl, it is an indulgent eat. For $6.95 you’ll be so satisfied you’ll forget all about shopper’s remorse.

For those of you who seem to eat anything and not gain a pound, go ahead, rub it in and order the cheeseburger ($12.95). With in-house roasted garlic, your choice of cheese and a side of fries, the burger is the ultimate entree. You’ll be the envy of all your friends – and might need to get a different ride home.

BarThe Voice-Tribune has chosen Napa River Grill to host its next Third Thursday After-Work Party on April 21. With networking sponsor Northwestern Mutual and the Early Times Mint Julep as the signature drink, why wait until May to kick off Derby? Better question, why wait until girl’s night to try Napa River Grill?

With two private dining rooms available as well as catering, you can bring the esteemed pleasures of Napa River Grill almost anywhere.

The restaurant serves weekly specials seven nights a week and lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Sophisticated upscale casual dining is at home in Westport Village. With spacious seating and a great patio, Napa River is worth visiting over and over again.

Dish everyone knows to order:

All hail Caesar! Napa’s Caesar salad is almost too pretty to eat – almost.

They might not be for everyone, but the Asian ahi nachos are worth trying. The dish features diced raw tuna in sesame soy dressing served on crispy wonton chips with wasabi aiolo, cucumber slaw and pickled ginger ($13.95).
