Majid’s St. Matthews

| March 10, 2011

DuckIn the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, The Voice-Tribune will celebrate its own version of eat, drink and be merry with another Eat “¢ Play “¢ Live Third Thursday After-Work Party on March 17.

Third Thursdays have quickly become an anticipated midweek event, sure to take the edge off both hump-day and the work day. And proof that there is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow -,  this coming week’s party will be at Majid’s St. Matthews.

Haven’t ventured out to try Majid’s,  yet? This is your lucky day. With Persian, Mediterranean and American specialty dishes all prepared with quality ingredients Majid’s has something for everyone.

Thanks to Brown-Forman you’ll be able to quench your after-work cravings while feasting on a few complimentary, hand-selected appetizers from Majid’s eclectic menu.

Cheese PlateIt is a surprise even for us! But judging by my most recent visit to Majid’s – you won’t be disappointed.

From shrimp cocktail served with spicy horseradish sauce ($5) to the smoked salmon crostini topped with benedictine, capers, shallots and fresh lemon ($7), you’ll look forward to Thursdays from now on.

And to wash it all down, Brown-Forman will be on hand to announce the release of its new premium Canadian whiskey,  – Collingwood.
Don’t spend too much of your happy hour racking up overtime – the,  first 50 guests will receive swag bags full of goodies.

LambDon’t worry, the giveaways won’t be limited to those wearing green.

Whether you’re starting your St. Patrick’s Day bar crawl at Majid’s, or looking to wind down over dinner and save the partying for the weekend, I have a suggestion.

One of Majid’s signature entrees, the seafood stew ($23), is way more than a one-pot wonder. Fresh shrimp, scallops, cod and mussels are all sauteed in a blend of tomato, white wine and saffron to create a delicate yet hearty meal, which was surprisingly filling without making me feel like I needed a power nap. It’s the perfect pre-game meal.

Majid’s has mastered the ambiance of a true lounge. The dark setting of the bar plays nucleus to a mixture of high-top tables and plush booths surrounding a piano where live music is there to entertain from Wednesday through Saturday.

If you haven’t found “your spot” yet, this is one place you want to be a regular at.

Majid’s is located at 3930 Chenoweth Lane. It is open for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Dinner hours are 5 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 5 to 10 p.m. Sunday.

Setting

Majid’s is located in the heart of St. Matthews and proves that you don’t have to venture downtown anymore to experience a quality lounge.

Parking

Ample. While most shops surrounding Chenoweth Square close around 5, Majid’s is just getting started.

Sounds

Live music, friendly chatter and the essence of cool oozes from this eatery. You’re able to unwind without feeling guilty about going out on a school night.

Dish everyone knows to order

You know what they say: when in Persia “¦. The Sheeshleek, or rack of lamb with roasted kabob, is seasoned with fresh lemon and sumac served with dill and lima bean basmati rice, torshi and vegetable medley ($30).

Dish not everyone knows to order

Vegetarian Pastitsio has seasonal vegetables, ziti pasta, and,  house-made yogurt bechamel baked to a golden brown ($19).
