Fitness 19Once the confetti and champagne from New Year’s Eve have passed and the lingering ills begin to set in there is one thing on my mind -,  a No. 6 with fries and a large coke.

However, once my liquid hangover is cured, there is an equally as rigid grease hangover that soon takes up residence right on my non-existent abs. There is only one solution for this nuisance: The three dreaded letters of all post New Year’s Eve partygoers – G-Y-M.

But with Fitness 19′s non-commissioned sales force, hassle-free business style and affordable workout plans, this might be one New Year’s resolution that will actually transfer over into 2011.

For those who are hoping to really kick start 2011, Fitness 19 owner/operator Jim Bero advises not to “wing it.”

Fitness 19“Set goals and have a plan of action,” he said. “Most people sign up for a gym membership with good intentions but often lack the knowledge to actually lose the weight and keep it off.”

Fitness 19 operates with the simple concept of “an extremely affordable, family-friendly facility that offers state-of-the-art cardio, strength and free-weight equipment,” Bero said.

Fitness 19 is a national chain, and its first Louisville location opened at 109 Blankenbaker Parkway in March of 2008.

With memberships starting at $9 per month with no long-term contracts, the gym offers month-to-month, pay-as-you-go packages.

Fitness 19 is focused on quality, convenience and price. It offers world-class equipment and excellent childcare facilities.

“We take pride in being involved with the local community and love giving back for charity events,” Bero said.

While Jim agrees that the mid-section is probably the area most women and men want to target at the gym, “unless that person starts to eat right and increase their cardio, the love handles are not going anywhere,” he said. “You cannot target which part of the body you lose fat from, so it’s best to train the total body for the fastest results.”

So ladies, it’s bon-bons or abdominals. For men, it’s bar bells or beer bellies.

There’s no better place to get fit.

Hours of operation are 5 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 5 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Kids’ room hours are 8:45 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4-8 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

Bero’s favorite is a circuit-style workout with strength training that helps keep the heart rate up while still getting the benefits of weight training.

Bero can’t stand doing wind sprints for cardio, but it is hands down the most effective way to burn body fat and preserve the muscle you already have. Many people call it high-intensity interval training.

While memberships do increase at the beginning of the year, New Year’s resolutions are not the majority of Fitness 19′s January memberships. Many people join because they can no longer workout outside, and they need a membership to get them to spring. But don’t worry, Fitness 19 has more than enough equipment to compensate for the extra demand.

    Nice fitness club Jim! Could you please open one in Troy, Ohio? I dropped my membership to the YMCA and have a treadmill in the basement but would also like to have an eliptical, I also need to take some classes but am taking it slow since my 3 back surgeries last year. My mid section is getting thick, any suggestions? Janet Newnam
