The Stakes Have Been Raised: BD 2012

| June 7, 2012

If you’ve never heard of I’ll Have Another, then you probably live under a rock.

On May 5, the world watched in disbelief as the Thoroughbred surged past Bodemeister to win the most prestigious crown in horse racing. Then the world watched again as jockey Mario Gutierrez, once an unknown name in the racing industry, clipped Bodemeister in the Preakness Stakes.

With the Belmont Stakes just two days away and considered the most difficult race of the Triple Crown of racing, the world is now anxiously waiting to see if the 3-year-old can repeat his performance and join the company of Secretariat, Seattle Slew and Affirmed.

Who doesn’t love a fairy tale ending? Time will tell if horse racing’s new little darling has what it takes to upstage the top contenders in the Belmont Stakes. We all hope for it on June 9, and we just may witness a Triple Crown winner and something that hasn’t happened in 34 years.

To pick up the excitement when the wagering is over on the Belmont Stakes is The Voice-Tribune’s Best Dressed. Now that all the nominations are in, it’s time for us to begin the revealing process to see which women, men and couples will be asked to take part in this year’s event on August 25 at the Louisville Marriott Downtown.

Over the next 9 weeks, we will reveal the names of the nominees that “you,” the public, have called on to participate in Louisville’s premier event. It’s important to pay close attention each week throughout the summer when all the nominees are named. You will be summoned back to vote beginning on August 9 at www.voice-tribune.com. You may vote once a day every day in each of the categories. The public’s involvement is a key instrument to the overall success, and, for that reason, we ask you to get involved.

Don’t forget to mark your calendar for August 25 for another unparalleled event.  Tickets are available on our website and sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. I encourage you not to wait until the last minute when purchasing tickets, because BD2012 will sell-out!
