A gourmet feast

| December 9, 2010

Once we had our fix of fabulous magnolia wreaths and elegant arrangements, we moved on to the next party on our must-go-to list at the home of Johnna and John Kelly at Hill Road. The Kellys’ home is also a classic beauty, but because John is such an amazing cook, the focus is inevitably on the food. Both John and Johnna love to entertain throughout the year and always put together a fun and interesting guest list at their much anticipated holiday party.

John, a sales executive at Sam Swope Automotive, is a master chef in the kitchen and will spend days before a party whipping up new and unusual dishes from scratch. But don’t ask him for the recipe for his to-die-for lobster risotto or his melt-in-your-mouth shortribs because, like most experienced chefs, he doesn’t use a written recipe.

He did offer me a bit of culinary advice that I plan to utilize in the hopes of impressing my next dinner guests. A small amount of white truffle oil, he says, can go a long way in making an entree or appetizer really complex and wine friendly.
Did I forget to mention their extensive wine cache? Perhaps we’ll save that for another column entirely!
