Derby Ball Celebrates 53 Years of The Fillies
The Fillies will celebrate 53 years of work this year in which they have helped the Kentucky Derby Festival Committee by producing a gala Derby Ball. Each year during the ball the Derby Queen is chosen by a spin of the wheel and presented to the public with her court.
Carnevale La Vie Parisienne!
Kentucky Opera’s black tie gala, Carnevale … La Vie Parisienne, was last Saturday evening at the Marriott Ballroom and David Roth, the general director, was a happy camper.

Sam Swope ought to be the man of the year if Louisville named one. Really though, he is the man of the century if one is judged by one’s contribution to mankind.
The Baltic cruise continues
We sailed up the Daugava River into Riga, Latvia, “the Pearl of the Baltics” and saw a bridge that looked as if famed architect Calavera designed it among several of Riga’s modernistic towers.
On to St. Petersburg
Sailing on the Seabourn Pride, we are on our way from Helsinki to St. Petersburg. Before dinner we attended a special lecture by Dr. Mark Elovitz on Putin and what is going on in Russia.
On the road again
Recently we had the itch to travel again and a cruise from Stockholm to Lisbon struck our fancy. So it was time to hit the road.
Fillies Entertain Provisional Members
The Fillies entertained their new 2011 provisional members at a cocktail party at the home of Paula Harshaw. The provisional term is one year, after which they shall be entitled to all of the privileges of the membership.
Candle Glow Gala plans underway
The Candle Glow Gala benefiting Hosparus of Louisville is being held on Oct. 22 this year. Marland Cole, chief public affairs officer of Hosparus, said it was such a success last year at the Louisville Marriott Downtown that it is being held there again this year.
Kosair Charities lets dreams soar
Last Saturday, Kosair Charities hosted Dreams Take Flight, a gala of gifts and grants, a black-tie affair where children in need were the primary honored guests.
