Counting the K’s

| October 11, 2011

Last night the Detroit Lions accomplished a feat they haven’t achieved since 1956 – a 5-0 start to the regular season.

Around the time of the Lions’ victory over the Chicago Bears, David Stern announced the cancellation of the first two weeks of the NBA regular season as the NBA Lockout looms without any indication of an end coming soon.

But while the world of sports was calling attention to itself, millions of viewers were tuning into E! for the second half of the four-hour television event of the season, Kim Kardashian’s “Fairytale Wedding.”

I’ll admit it, I was watching.

The Kardashian lifestyle is enviable to say the least. I couldn’t help but check out at least one or two of the hours to see the “royal wedding” every entertainment magazine has been gossiping about since Kim announced her engagement to Kris Humphries in May. All the luxury, lavishness and drama involved with the Kardashian clan created the spectacle everyone expected to see, but as I was watching, there was only one thing I kept thinking: just how over-the-top was the Kardashian wedding?

With an estimated total cost from half a million to 10 million dollars, here’s a breakdown of some of the expenses for Kim’s wedding. According to the dailymail.com and thehollywoodreporter.com:

$2,000/ night: cost of Kim’s stay at the Palazzo hotel during her bachelorette party.

$10,000: cost of Lehr & Black designed crystal-embellished black-and-white engraved gatefold invitations.

$20,000: estimated cost of each of the three Vera Wang wedding dresses Kim wore at her wedding and reception.

$150,000: cost of Kim’s hair, makeup and grooming.

$200,000: cost of Kim’s 15 carat emerald-cut diamond wedding band.

$2.5 million: cost of the 65 carat Lorraine Schwartz headpiece Kim wore down the aisle.

$5 million: worth of Kim’s 28-carat earrings.

It’s all adding up, but did it cost Kim a dime? According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Kardashian family is actually expected to benefit financially from the costly wedding.

Several vendors were reported to have either discounted or given away freely their products and services in hopes of gaining high publicity from the event. And of course, the Kardashians are bringing in the cash from E! for allowing cameras to crash the wedding.

The total bill is uncertain but one thing’s for sure, the Kardashians definitely delivered on all the hype and extravagance we’ve been hearing about for months.

Now all we have left to do is sit back and watch as the Kardashians continue to tape their daily lives and wonder if Kim and Kris will in fact live happily ever after their fairytale wedding.
