A Very “She & Him” Christmas

| December 8, 2011

When a sugary pop artist releases a Christmas album, you pause and wonder: “Ok, could this holiday music get any tackier?” (side note: Justin Bieber’s duet with Mariah Carey…it’s alright.) But seriously, I’d rather listen to those squeaky chipmunks sing “Christmas Christmas time is near…”.

It’s already stuck in your head isn’t it?

Well forgive me, but I need to make a point. We bombard ourselves with holiday music for one to two months every year, then we goback to our regular music. While I love the holidays as much as the next person, hearing the same songs over and over again can really drive you bonkers. Anyone who works at a commercial business (retail, restaurant, etc.) knows what I’m talking about.

So when a band I listen to during the other months comes out with a Christmas album, I snatch it up looking for a fresh take on the classics. “She & Him” (comprised of the quintessential quirky crush Zooey Deschanel and indie idol M. Ward), best known for their sunny and soulful tunes, has come out with “A Very She & Him Christmas” this holiday season. From “The Christmas Song” to “Blue Christmas” to “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”, the album covers all the best.

BONUS!: If you watched the movie “Elf” you might remember Zooey singing in the shower “Baby It’s Cold Outside”, which is also included in the album. I wonder if Zooey knew back then that she would be contributing to the pop Christmas collection…
