I am a divorced mom with a 16-year-old son, Jonathan. I’ve lived in Louisville 23 years and came here to work at WLKY-TV. I grew up in Paducah, Ky. My parents, brother and his wife and kids are all in Louisville now. My grandmother Iva Nesbitt, had a fabric shop in Murray, Ky., when I was young, and it was one of my favorite places to hang out. That’s where my love for fashion began. Designing and decorating store windows, tweaking patterns to suit me, choosing fabrics – I like it all but the sewing! My grandmother and mom were expert seamstresses. I couldn’t compare.
Coco Chanel set the bar for sophisticated women’s clothing … along with the little black dress. Who doesn’t have one, two or three in their closet?
Favorite Places to Shop
I don’t seem to find time to shop unless I’m vacationing or have a planned shopping trip out of town. Locally, Circe and Rodeo Drive are favorites. Elizabeth Horgan at Saks Fifth Avenue in Indianapolis always keeps me in the loop on the latest designs at Saks. (Horgan’s daughter is WLKY-TV meteorologist Susanne Horgan.)
My son and anything he is involved with. He’s a golfer and big sports fan. We spend summer weekends on our boats at Kentucky Lake. And, yes I have the fashion bible – Vogue’s September issue – packed and ready to read for my Labor Day weekend on the lake!
