Louisville’s most glam week
Derby week has come and gone, leaving many of us with fun memories, some great pics and in my case, a slight case of well-earned exhaustion. Whether working or playing, most Louisvillians will concede that the week preceding the first Saturday in May is one of the most glamorous and demanding of the year.
The Mint Jubilee
1 oz. Chambord Vodka 1/2 oz. Lemoncello 1/4 oz. Crème de Violette 1/2 oz. POM Cherry 1/4 oz. fresh squeezed lime juice 3 oz. soda Mix first five ingredients in a shaker, pour in glass and top with soda.
A night out on Main Street
After gearing up for Derby for the past couple of weeks, a simple night out on the town with friends was in order. We donned our comfortable jeans and headed downtown to some of our favorite eateries on East Main Street.

Yahoo! Sports named its Best Drinks to Serve at a Kentucky Derby Party. Among the top picks were The Early Times Mint Julep, The Finlandia Oaks Lily and the Woodford Sweet Tea.

Not your grandmother’s Welcome Wagon
One of my fondest childhood memories is of helping my mother and grandmother assemble a basket of goodies and delivering it to our new neighbors who had just moved in across the street.
Early Times Mint Julep
Crush a few mint leaves in the bottom of an 8-ounce glass, then fill with crushed ice. Add one tablespoon of simple syrup and one tablespoon of water. Add 2 ounces of Early Times. Stir gently until glass frosts. Garnish with a fresh mint sprig, sip and enjoy.

2 oz. bourbon whiskey 3/4 oz. Chambord Liqueur 3/4 oz. vanilla syrup 2 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters Shake all ingredients and serve in a coupe glass. Garnish with brandied blackberries, brandied raspberries or regular blackberries.
